Secret Bar in Taipei (A Real Speakeasy)

Want to go somewhere new and exciting to have a drink in Taipei?

Do you like secret entrances that give a sense of exclusivity?

If you have a little extra cash in your pocket and want a mixed drink tailored to your individual taste, you need to try Ounce.

Ounce is an American style speakeasy bar that is located behind a secret wall in a seemingly regular café. Many people go to this café and have no idea this place exists.

Decorations inside the cafe.

I will let you in on the secret to getting into this upscale speakeasy bar.

Even if the cafe looks closed, you can still open the door. (The cafe closes at 12AM, but the bar stays open until 2AM)

The right side of the cafe.

You go into the café, and go towards the left side, near the bathroom.

The left wall is decorated with many pictures and fake doorbells. Only one of these doorbells will alert the staff inside that you wish to enter.

This is the doorbell that will alert the staff inside.

After you press the top button, you may have to wait a few minutes for an attendant to open the secret door. Sometimes, you will be let in right away. Other times, you may have to wait 5-10 minutes depending on how busy the bartenders are.

When you get inside, a server or bartender will serve you water first, let you get settled, and then they come and ask for your order. They have no menu at this bar, so they will ask you what flavors you like and what base liquor you prefer. Then, they will make a drink fitting your specific taste.

They have expert bartenders here with top shelf liquor, so the prices match the experience. You will be looking to pay around 400-500NTD per drink, but the drinks are truly strong and delicious.

I would recommend getting a passion fruit flavor with a rum base. It was quite enchanting.

Mmmmmmm! Delicious!

Show your friends how knowledgeable you are of Taipei by taking them to Ounce!
